Carrie Gorman
Cross Categorical Teacher

Carrie Gorman is one of the Special Education Teachers at Tollgate Elementary School. She holds a degree in Special Education and a Master’s in Mathematics education. She has training and experience in culturally and linguistically diverse education.

Ms. Gorman always tries to build a strong connection with students and family, she believes this is the foundation of working with families and students.

Carrie was born and raised in Colorado. Outside of school Ms. Gorman enjoys spending time with her family and friends, but especially her dog Bella.

Marlies Emmelot
ASD Teacher

Marlies Emmelot has been teaching for 6 years and this is her second year at Tollgate. She has taught 2nd and 3rd grade and is excited to step into a new role with the Autism program. Ms. Emmelot grew up in Illinois and moved to Colorado 6 years ago. She loves to read, paint, and spend time outside with friends.

I love working with children and spending time with my family. As a hobby, I walk my pet, Mochi, every day and cook for my children and husband. On weekends, I go outdoors and enjoy the Colorado scenery and water my plants.

Alejandra McNickles
Speech and Language Pathologist Assisant

Alejandra is excited to join Tollgate Elementary as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA). She has experience working with children in both educational and outreach settings. She is passionate about supporting students in reaching their communication goals and strives to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone. Outside of work she enjoys spending time outdoors, enjoying music, and crafting. She is looking forward to collaborating with staff, students and families this year!

Samantha Bandstra
Mental Health
School Social Worker

Sam Bandstra is a School Social Worker in her second year with Aurora Public Schools. She is looking forward to working at Tollgate Elementary to continue to apply her passions for expeditionary learning as she used to be a camp counselor. She also has 5 years of experience in working with individuals with disabilities, therapy with creative arts, and trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy. In her free time, she practices self-care through running, drawing, and spending time with her loved ones.
